Saturday, October 24, 2009 - A Firefighter from Westover Borough (Clearfield County) Fire Station 45 died in the Line of Duty while fighting a full involved structure at a house in Westover Borough.

Firefighters responded to a reported working fire early this morning and upon arrival, started their attack and related operations. Reports are that Command then decided to allow the fire to burn because it was a vacant abandoned structure.

While operating at this fire, Lt. Roy Westover Jr a 41 year old male Firefighter reported that he did not feel well. Paramedics were already on the scene, treatment was started and the Firefighter was transported to Miners Hospital. Upon arrival at the hospital, the Firefighter went into what appeared to be cardiac arrest and later died in the Line of Duty, at the hospital.

Westover was a 28 year member of the department, and he had been a lieutenant for the past year

His wife is deceased and he is survived by his father, Roy Sr., his mother, Mary, and his three teenage sons, Seth 16, Jordan 15, and Collin 13. Two of which were serving as Jr. Firefighters. He is also survived by his parents and numerous brothers and sisters.

The fire is still being investigated by PA. State Police Fire Marshals and is being treated as suspicious. Apparently there have been a rash of suspicious fires in this area since April.

Westover was employed at Wickett and Craig in Curwensville, and he was active in firefighting, taking every opportunity to train when and where he could.
He was so involved, he also got his two older sons into the company and they often accompanied him to trainings.
